Kimchi Durian

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.”
― George Bernard Shaw

Kimchi is a staple of every Korean table with a flavour unlike any other; often handmade with countless hours of patience and a lot of love. Much like kimchi, Ashley is vibrant and adds flavour to any one’s life. As her bridesmaids recall, she is an amazing friend and person.

Durian, on the other hand, is a Malaysian crowd pleaser and has been known to shut down airports. His best man, Sim, declares to his laughing audience amidst singing his praises that Zhuo is the biggest man baby ever.

So, it is no surprise that these fan favourite foods, I mean people, got hitched! Zhuo and Ashley married each other in an intimate wedding in the presence of God and a handpicked bevy of friends and family; the evening graced with cool air and soft sunshine.

It is not hard to tell that Zhuo and Ashley are in love. From the moment she walked down the aisle, Zhuo and Ashley could not stop smiling at each other even when he was trying to hide his tears!

Kimchi durian might be a strange way to refer to Zhuo and Ashley but more than just foods, it’s how their friends refer to them as a couple. And, it even became their unofficial hashtag!

Just like how kimchi and durian are made up of intricate and surprising flavours, it’s the little things spotted in secret moments that make up a relationship. Like the way Zhuo and Ashley always reassure each other with little touches that “I am here. I love you”. And, the way that Zhuo is infinitely caring and protective while Ashley is his pillar of strength, resilience and practicality.

For food enthusiasts, kimchi and durian are both acquired tastes. Just like for Zhuo and Ashley, a successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. But, they already know that.

As the romantics would say, “marry a man who looks at you like Zhuo looks at Ashley.” And, they would be so right.
